THEME PARK DESIGN

Art directed the "Ghostbusters" attraction at Motiongate, Dubai. This concept imagines that the Temple of Gozer had a gateway inside a painting at the Metropolitan Museum of Art. I have indicted wind, light, sound effects--along with projection, shadow-play, and moving objects--in order to depict possessed paintings/sculptures/vases.
This "Ghostbusters" concept sketch shows a set design pov--the guests travel through the streets of New York City.

Reminds me a bit of the Universal Studios "Men in Black: Alien Attack" theme park ride in Orlando, which I also helped design.

I was fortunate to be one of several talented Art Directors who worked on the Motiongate theme park in Dubai. These are sketches for "How To Train Your Dragon" scenic. The Dreamworks Animation Zone won a THEA award for Outstanding Achievement. (client: Mycotoo/Riva Creative USA)

"How to Train Your Dragon" area development sketch. Particular attention was necessary for the rockwork design. This is within the Dreamworks section of the Motiongate theme park, Dubai (client: Mycotoo/Riva Creative USA)

These concept sketches are for "Zombieland"-themed midway games, within a Sony area of the Motiongate theme park, Dubai. (Mycotoo/Riva Creative USA)

Art Directed the "Hotel Transylvania" portion of the Motiongate theme park in Dubai. Here is a quick design sketch I did for the ride control podium. Thorough research, and consideration of silhouette and functionality are key. (client: Mycotoo/Riva Creative USA)

As Art Director of the "Hotel Transylvania" theme park project, one of my duties was to design the retail space. Particular attention was paid to drawing/designing the prop set dressing and the furnishings, as well as architectural details like columns, doors, doorways, and floor/wall finishes. I also liked the idea of having an aquarium in one wall. I envisioned the ceiling space swagged with gothic elements like red velvet curtains and chains.  (client: Mycotoo/Riva Creative USA)

Theme park projects are a massive collaborative endeavor. Much thanks to my fellow Motiongate art directors, as well as the brilliant creative directors, producers, architects, engineers, technical directors, and the entire in-house team--as well as the vendors: construction, show-ride, restaurant, landscape, lighting, sound, and a multitude of others whom we collaborated with to make this theme park the beautiful destination that it is today.

Two out of my four total THEA awards--these are for California Adventure's Disney Animation pavilion, and Universal Studios Japan's Space Fantasy darkride/rollercoaster.
